How To Begin To Love Mass

When you don’t feel like going to church think about how fortunate you are to have the opportunity to attend.

Sure, it’s common you wake up on Sunday and realize that once again you have to get ready and go to church. This morning you’re not really feeling it, and you try to do anything else, you try to sleep in or try to miss Mass hoping your family forgets to go. Maybe you go to mass just out of routine and don’t really understand what’s going on. Well, that’s how I was once. Church was soooo boring to me, I didn’t know that not going was a sin, I didn’t like it, didn’t understand it, I got tired and I was just over it. But that was me with the old mindset and understanding of Mass. NOW after having experienced more of the beautiful celebration with better understanding and knowledge, I absolutely love going to church, I love mass, I love listening to the readings and the homily. I love love love receiving the blood and body of Christ. It is hard to think now that I used to put off church on purpose and just for what I have gone through before with my interest and involvement in the church, but I am glad it happened because it has led me to appreciate it more and to be able to live it better.  I love being refreshed. I love being reminded of the sacrifices that God has made and to know that He gave up his life for me because he loves me just as He loves you ❤

I encourage you to try to live mass more openly. Don’t go to mass with the same attitude, give it a try and soon enough you will genuinely enjoy it. Open your heart and try to take into consideration some of these tips to get more involved:

  • Go to mass early to dedicate some time to pray before the celebration starts. Pray that you may take something away from the readings or homily that you can learn from and apply to your daily life. Pray that you may begin to get closer to understand and accept God’s love in his sacrifice. Just pray to get all distractions out of your mind to pay attention and stay focused.
  • Take some notes during the homily and write down what stood out to you, (don’t worry about anyone staring, just focus on what God has to tell you). What I do sometimes is voice record the homilies to refer to them later on and reflect on them.
  • Try to memorize the prayers and songs that are said and sung during mass, it’ll sure get you involved and it’ll help you become more attentive.
  • Lastly, try to live forth the peace and love you’ve been given. Be humble and love always. Pray pray pray, God will take you as you are.

Try to make friends from church to help you grow spiritually and just have an amazing relationship. There is no better friendship than those who bring you closer to God. I know I have my amazing group of friends that brought me close to God and I couldn’t be happier.

“that each one of us, in spite of our life circumstances, we have been made so that the works of God might be made visible with others- that’s our calling. We have to open our eyes and see. We have to listen for His voice.”- Deacon from IC
