Glorifying God with my body

I recently started to change my lifestyle for the better. I started to do all the stuff that I used to put off for ‘tomorrow’ such as eating healthy and exercising. I was determined, and I changed my diet completely and did a lot more exercise weekly…but there is more to it than that. See a lot of the time we don’t really think about all that we are capable of doing until we put our bodies through it. For over a month I have been putting my body through changes that I didn’t think I would follow through on, but I did.

At the beginning of my diet and exercise, a major key for me through the whole month was to just lose weight. I really only cared about how I looked, and appearance was everything to me. I thought that it was about that time that I started to make some changes. I never really looked at the bigger picture until towards the end of the month. I failed to realize how blessed I am to have the body that I have. To be able to move voluntarily and stretch freely without difficulty. I failed to realize that my body has more than a purpose to just be.

1 Cor. 6, 19-20 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Using my body to glorify God is to take care of it, treat it well but most importantly…to love it. The workout class instructor always said, “if your range of motion lets you go there, take it there.” You only get one body and I suggest you take care of it and begin to love it and be thankful rather than complain about your body image. Many times I fail to realize that there are people out there who wish to have two arms and two legs or to be able to walk let alone run on their own. I take all that I can do for granted and yet still don’t take advantage of it.

God made everyone perfect, he gave us life, he gave us our body and the least we can do in return is to glorify him through it. I am thankful to have made the decision to better my lifestyle and to nurture my body positively. It has brought me closer to God. It is important to treat your body right to be able to carry out the tasks that God has planned for you and to be able to serve him. Start with small changes and soon enough those changes will turn into your lifestyle and trust me being healthy and active makes you feel so good. Don’t waste your life wishing to look or feel a certain way without putting in effort, rather go out and do it. Pray about it. God will help you every step of the way.
