Jesus fills the gap

I started going to this group last Thursday called Alpha and what caught my attention the most was the opener questions: is this it ? Is there more to life than this? Why am I here?

To be honest those are some big questions. Questions that can’t be easily Googled and that only God can answer because not one person will end up with the same results. At times it can get frustrating not knowing what the rest of your life on this Earth is going to consist of or what your purpose in life is and if you are even doing this thing called life right. You may be living a lifestyle or you have the same daily routines and schedules and every day you continue to ask yourself is this it? is anything going to happen today? What are you trying to tell me God are you even there?

it is normal, so it seems, to always feel like there is something missing so you try to keep filling in the gaps with the pleasures of money, new things, new experiences, new friends, relationships and so on until such point comes along that you were running out of ideas or things to do. Whenever you accomplish what you thought would fulfill you and you don’t feel what you thought you would it leads you every time to think that there has got to be more than life than this. Everything you seem to try only provides temporary happiness and it leads you back to where you started: looking for what is missing, some type of satisfaction.

From this meeting I was reminded three things that Jesus has said to us:

  1. Jesus said, “I am the way”– he is the way to find the purpose for which we are made. His way to that relationship that is fully loving and everlasting. He is the way to happiness.
  2. Jesus said, “I am the truth”– C.S. Lewis said “Christianity if false is of no importance and if true of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.” When someone says that Jesus is the truth not only are they convinced of the evidence but rather the experience and relationship they have established with them that makes it true. There are two types of truths: head knowledge (intellectual understanding) and heart knowledge (experience through a relationship)
  3. Jesus said, “I am the life”– I have come that you may have life and have it to the full John 10:10. I hope you know that God loves you he came in person of his son Jesus to set you free to enjoy life to the full you no longer have to worry he died for us and for our sins and for our Salvation to be happy and no longer suffer. He came to take our guilt away set us free from bad habits and addiction. He wants us to have a relationship with God through him.

If you have yet to establish a relationship with God make that your goal this year, to grow spiritually and finally feel what has been missing in your life. Little by little begin involving yourself and things that bring you closer to him. Attend Mass Weekly. Read a few verses from the Bible, go to holy hour, surround yourself with those who would bring you closer to God and pray pray pray. gotta be the good you want to see in the world. God only knows that that’s what the world needs.
