The right to be a Christian

Anti- gay, anti-Jewish, anti-feminist, anti-etc.. all these anti’s are frowned upon. Yes, I agree any anti against a human being is not acceptable and should be frowned upon. Everyone is loved by the eyes of God even me, a struggling sinner. Standing up against hatred and despair should be a focus for all humans—a responsibility as a society. Although we have done a great job standing up for recent events and groups of people who have been victims of hatred, I can’t help but notice the double-standard taken by many. Especially when it comes to Christian rights. It’s interesting that anti-Christianity is actually not frowned upon it’s applauded and well if you are against Christianity society is on your side. The thousands of Christians being killed on a daily basis aren’t making the news because well, they are Catholic. The rights that Christians seek are considered as “intolerant” and/or “irrelevant.” This mind set is very popular in the secular society. I am going to focus on two aspects that have fed this mentality:

1. LACK OF UNDERSTANDING OF THE FAITH– Many people hate the Church for what they think it is. They base their opinions on media or one person’s testimony. If you don’t understand something that leaves no space to go in and make a judgement. This is a standard many people have, but when it comes to Christianity many people seem to forget the standard they say they live by. I cannot criticize a whole group of people based-off what I think I know. There are many aspects in our faith that many people don’t take the time to understand. So, if you are not a Christian I invite you to take a deeper look into the spirituality, the theology, the fundaments, and the foundation of our faith before you go out and try to take our rights away. If you are a Christian let us do a better job of letting the faith be shown for what it is.. which takes me to point aspect number 2.

2. RE-DISCOVER YOUR FAITH– Every day is a work of re-discovering. Every day wake up and know that you firmly believe in the Christ that one day rescued you. We cannot turn to blame anyone but ourselves for the image society has on us. We are responsible for our own actions, even more, when we call ourselves Christians. Although our misery is rich, we believe in a Love so much larger than our misery. So, yes we will fall but let’s pick back up and live the authentic plan of happiness God has in mind for all of us. With this in mind we defend the rights of every human being with our life testimony, we defend the faith with our life testimony, we seek our vocation with our life testimony, we shut down all barriers with our life testimony, we say yes to love with our life testimony.. and only sometimes and very scarcely use words.

“There are not one hundred people in the United States who hate The Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they wrongly perceive the Catholic Church to be.” Fulton J. Sheen
